First Alaskans Institute Board Passes Resolution Opposing Ballot Measure 2, Joins Campaign to Protect Alaska’s Elections 

Anchorage, Alaska (8/10/2026) — The First Alaskans Institute (FAI) Board of Trustees has passed a resolution opposing Ballot Measure 2 and joining the No on 2 – Protect Alaska’s Elections campaign to defend Alaska’s campaign finance disclosure laws and open primary system. 

Ballot Measure 2 will appear on Alaska’s November ballot. If passed, it would repeal the state’s nation-leading campaign finance disclosure laws, which require that the true source of political spending in Alaska elections be disclosed. It would also eliminate ranked choice voting and end Alaska’s open primary, explicitly allowing a return to closed partisan primaries that could shut out the more than 60% of Alaska voters who do not belong to a political party. 

“Self-determination begins with having a vote by ensuring every voter can support the candidates they believe in and by providing transparency about the sources of election spending. These are important protections that strengthen trust in our democracy. Ballot Measure 2 would eliminate both, moving Alaska in the wrong direction,” said Roy Apagruk Agloinga, President and CEO of FAI. 

FAI joins a growing coalition of Alaska Native organizations, business leaders, and voters across the political spectrum in opposing Ballot Measure 2 ahead of the November election.
