Connecting Alaskans to Resources for Prevention, Wellness & Safety

Enaa neenyo (welcome / precious you came in Denaakk'e / Koyukon),

First Alaskans Institute is excited to share a new interactive Statewide Resource Map, created by the Alaska Native Policy Center, featuring organizations and programs that support suicide prevention, wellness, and safety.

Alaska Native communities continue to face suicide rates more than triple the national average in the United States (sources: ANTHC Epidemiology Center, CDC). Recognizing the importance of connecting people with available resources, this tool was developed to make existing programs and organizations more visible and easier to navigate.

While building the map through ArcGIS, FAI spoke to regional organizations statewide that are focused on suicide prevention and improving mental wellbeing. A common theme that emerged from these conversations was the importance of upstream prevention that strengthens protective factors, such as cultural connection, youth engagement, supportive and safe relationships, and strong community. As a result, the map includes organizations and programs that promote protective factors, even if they are not specifically labeled suicide prevention. It also highlights safety resources for individuals experiencing violence or abuse, as part of a broader effort to support healing and wellbeing across Alaska.

The map includes five main layers:

  • Alaska Native Regional Nonprofits
  • Prevention & Wellness Programs and Organizations
  • Regional Health Organizations
  • Community Health Organizations
  • Safety Resources

Click on any icon to view details and connect directly to an organization's website. Use the layer list to turn categories on and off and focus on the resources most relevant to you.

Do you know of a resource in your community that isn't currently included? Please email [email protected].

If you or someone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts or needs immediate support, call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, to connect with a trained crisis counselor.

We hope this map helps connect Alaskans to the support and community they need.

Baasee' (thank you),
